Debbie-CannatellaDebbie Cannatella joined the SWUUW board in 2013 after being the Convener for the 2013 SWUUW Conference "Making Waves." Debbie joined the UU church in 1996 and was an active member for 9 years at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge with women's circles, women's curricula such as Cakes and Rise Up, Senior Youth and their youth Passages programs. She was a facilitator for Meetings at the Moon for adolescent girls and their female guardians. After remarrying and moving to Oak Park, Illinois in 2005, she joined Unity Temple, facilitated Cakes and Rise Up programs, and helped organize Women's Retreats for the UU Women's Connection.

After moving to Tyler Texas in 2007, Debbie served on the Board of Directors at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tyler, TX and was a worship associate for UUFT where she gave talks/sermons for the fellowships in East Texas. In 2009 she moved with her husband to Corpus Christi, Texas and served as Board Trustee for the 2011-2013 term, as well as the Transition Team during the Interim Minister period at U2C3. There she was active in worship, played in the church’s rock band “Thoreau Rocks”, and in social justice events. A graduate of the 2012 Dwight Brown Leadership Experience, Debbie is the mother of two adult daughters (36 & 37), two step-sons (17 & 19), and three grandchildren 19 years old and younger. She is an award winning full time watercolor artist, teaching classes and travels to teach watercolor workshops Nationally. Debbie and her husband live in the Historical District of Dallas, Texas and are currently members of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas.

Karen McGinnis (2010- )

Karen_McGinnisKaren McGinnis joined the SWUUW board in 2010 as Director at Large. A UU since the early 90s, Karen was active in the Amarillo UU Fellowship prior to her move to San Angelo, Texas in 2005.  In Amarillo she served the board in several capacities including President 1996-1997 and still considers the AUUF her “home church”.  Currently there is no official UU presence in San Angelo. Karen is involved with a variety of “seeker” groups including the Oneness Blessing, The Gathering of Circles, Habitat for Humanity and is a LINK for Kids On the Land, as well as a facilitator for Rise Up and Call Her Name. In 2014 she became President-elect and currently serves as Past President of SWUUW.

Jeannie Lewis

Jeannie LewisSan Marcos/UUs of New Braunfels

Jeannie Lewis is one of the 1987 founders of her local hometown UU church — the San Marcos UU Fellowship (SMUUF), just south of Austin, Texas.  She has been a UU since the late 1960s, first joining First UU in Dallas when the Rev. Dwight Brown was minister.  She has also been a member of the Denton, Texas, UU church when her family moved and then First UU in Austin when they moved again.

She has served many positions on the SMUUF Board over the years and has performed many off-board duties.  She is currently the very active Social Justice Chair of her church — her first love.  Her goal is to make SMUUF the liberal religious and social justice voice of her community.  She is gratified to see that this is beginning to be a reality! Jeannie served as convener of the 2015 SWUUW Conference in San Marcos, "Our Sacred Springs."

Katie Womack (2014- )

UU Church of the Brazos Valley

Katie Womack joined the SWUUW Board as Member At-Large in 2014. Katie has been a member of the UU Church of the Brazos Valley since 1981, serving as President of the Board two terms and Chair of the Religious Education Committee at least five years. She and her daughter attended their first SWUUW conference in 2003. Katie is a 2000 graduate of the Dwight Brown Leadership Experience. She is a trained OWL (Our Whole Lives) instructor. Currently she is active on her home church’s Membership Committee. She considers the SWUUW Conference one of the highlights of each year and is honored to serve on the SWUUW Board.

Celeste Kennedy

Celeste is currently the Secretary of the SWUUW's Board. Celeste has been President of NTUUC (North Texas UU Congregations) and serves as Chair of the NTUUC Education Committee which plans conferences and training events.  She has held various Board and Program Board positions at Community UU Church in Plano, Texas, where she has been a member for over 20 years. In her "other life" Celeste holds a Master's degree in Counseling and has been a trainer, program developer and administrator for the telecom and healthcare industries. Connecting people to interests and developing opportunities for people has been one of her focuses throughout her career. She has worked on PR for organizations and has produced brochures and other marketing publications.

Mary Overton

Mary Overton is a Past President of SWUUW. She was also the Executive Director of the First International UU Women's Convocation. She has served on the Board of the UU United Nations Office in New York City, and Co-chair of the Communications Committee and Chair of the Nominations Committee. Mary was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas where she served on the Board of the Social Action Council. She has recently moved to Austin.

Vicki Verinder

Vicki Verinder joined SWUUW board in 2016.  She has been a member of Community UU Church, Plano, since 2012 and was part of the Harvest the Power leadership class. She has co-chaired Community's Women's Alliance group for the last 2 years and will remain in that position for coming year. She has been in charge of the Community's Library for several years and was part of the Church Library Renewal group. Vicki is currently a member of the Membership Council, Stewardship Committee, and Welcoming Congregation Status Renewal Committee at Community. Vicki and her husband have lived in Plano since 1972 and raised two sons who now live out of state with their families. She holds the job of Leasing Agent and General Building Manager for American Five Trading, LLC, in Plano.
