Maiden Program

If you are the mother, grandmother or guardian of a teenage daughter, ages 13-17, who would like to attend our conference, please bring her!

Maidens can be part of all the conference sessions and activities, and will have a special Maiden Ceremony with gifts and words of wisdom from our female community. We particularly would like to ask that the women guardians and mentors of these maidens begin collecting pearls of wisdom, insights, and words of affirmation and hope, which you will write down for these maidens and place in a hand sewn cloth pouch that each maiden will receive as a gift, specially crafted by local UU women.

The maiden program during our conference will provide supportive space for the young women of our religiously liberal faith. Maidens may want to come to participatory workshops including “Opening up Through Improvisation” led by a mother/teenage daughter team, and “Our Living Masks” which will include a fun project and discussion, as well as any other adult workshops that might be of interest to them. There will be a Maidens Meet and Greet gathering Friday night after our Opening Ceremonies.

The SWUUW Maiden Program is designed to adhere to the principle of the UU Safe Congregations program: sponsors (mother, grandmother or guardian) are expected to attend the conference sessions with the Maiden. Please plan to bring the young women of your community to our conference and continue to build the next generation of strong and powerful UU women.

More Highlights

The Red Tent Room

Our annual tribute to female energy will be set up in a private conference room. Our Red Tent Room will be an active, yet relaxing, place to come and recharge. This welcoming space is for sisters of all ages – maidens, mothers, and crones. The Red Tent Room will include massage therapy, henna tattoos, coloring meditation, calming music, and other essentials to aid in comfort, calm, and creativity. Feel free to bring blankets, shawls, tarot cards, playing cards, games, and treats.

The Bazaar

Find a hand-crafted treasure at the conference Bazaar, where skilled artisans will offer a selection of unique items for sale. Everyone can enjoy shopping on Friday and Saturday between conference sessions. Each conference vendor has generously donated an item for the Raffle; by buying tickets for the prizes you want, you’ll help support the conference Scholarship Fund.

The Village

To help our village stay in touch, we will distribute all participants’ contact information to all others via email unless otherwise requested. You may opt out from this listing on your registration form.
