SWUUW has immediate openings for two at-large board members. We are also soliciting nominations for the 2012-2013. If you are interested in serving now and/or being nominated for next year, please let us hear from you now. Nomination doesn't equal election but it sure starts the ball rolling!

South West Unitarian Universalist Women Board of Directors is composed of nine women who commit to a term as follows:

Every year the following are elected by the Members to one-year terms: the President, President-Elect and the four Non-Officer Board members.

In even-numbered years, the Secretary is elected to a two-year term. In odd-numbered years, the Treasurer is elected to a two-year term.

The President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer and the Non-Officer Board Members, may serve one or more terms consecutively and may also be elected to consecutive terms. The outgoing President becomes the Past President for one year following her term as President.

Terms begin and end with the annual Conference meeting. It is important for the committee to be balanced and diverse in its membership; therefore care is taken to pull from the different regions in the SW District and to balance as to age, profession, and ethnic origins. It is preferred that one Non-Officer member be a minister.

"Exploring the UUniverse of Women's Spirituality" with speaker Meg Barnhouse!

Please join us at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake, TX. Where is that? Clear Lake City is really a part of Houston but don’t think of the downtown skyline or busy freeways. The 2012 SWUUW Conference will be held in the beautiful Hilton hotel overlooking Clear Lake and across from NASA Space Center. It is located 25 miles south of downtown Houston, 17 miles from Houston’s Hobby Airport and is a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate, reconnect and join us in Exploring the UUniverse of Women’s Spirituality. DALLAS

November 2010

I am looking for volunteers who are willing to give about three hours a week (one hour to prepare and two hours instruction time) to teaching adults English one day a week with a minimum commitment of teaching an entire semester.  No teaching experience is necessary and no knowledge of another language is needed.  We use a specific curriculum with an easy-to-use teacher's guide, textbook and workbook with all materials and training provided free of charge.

Under North Dallas Shared Ministries' "umbrella" we are offering two classes four days a week.  From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we hold a beginner class and an intermediate class in the Santa Monica Apartments close to the corner of Webbs Chapel and Park Lane.  The classes are held within the apartment complex in the Centro Familiar or Family Center, an apartment that belongs to Christ's Foundry, a Methodist church with an Hispanic ministry.

We are about to end our very first semester which has been quite successful.  We have had around 40 students register with an average of 15 attending regularly.  Currently, we have five teachers who are teaching the two classes four days a week.  Preferably, however, we would have two instructors teaching together in each class to help facilitate our students' learning.

If you or anyone else has any questions about this or needs more information, please ask them to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
