Optional Weekend Events

If you have a flexible schedule, please consider joining us for one or both of the following events. You can register for these events when you complete you general conference registration. Please note that the Capitol Tour is limited to the first 24 people.

Tour of the Texas State Capitol - Friday Evening

Karen Neeley will lead a group on a tour of the historic Texas State Capitol. We will meet in the hotel lobby at 4pm and carpool to the Capitol. This tour is limited to the first 24 people to register for it - look out for a question on the online registration form.  

CROP Hunger Walk - Sunday Afternoon

Looking to make a difference in our local community and in communities worldwide, the Austin CROP Hunger Walk hopes to help end hunger and poverty through long-term sustainable approaches to significantly reduce or eliminate hunger. A portion of the funds raised here in will go to local hunger-alleviating agencies.

This year Austin and some 1,000 other communities nationwide are joining together in interfaith CROP Hunger Walks around the theme "Ending hunger one step at a time." Many of the Walkers will be wearing t-shirts proclaiming their solidarity with the millions of neighbors around the world who have to walk to live -- as well as with the millions served by local food pantries, food banks and meal sites here in the U.S. These local ministries share in the funds raised by CROP Hunger Walks.

From combating droughts in Nicaragua to providing agricultural training in Indonesia to stocking shelves in hundreds of food pantries across the United States, CROP Hunger Walks are fighting hunger. First Unitarian Universalist Church of Austin will be participating on February 25th after church. The route is 2.4 miles long. Go here for more information:

If people sign up ahead of time, you are invited to have lunch after the church service. People will carpool from the church to the CropWalk and back -  to be arranged during lunch. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the church.

Feb. 23

Please note Friday dinner is on your own! The hotel has a restaurant and there are several others close by.
3:00 pm Hotel check-in begins
  Conference registration desk opens
  Raffle Ticket sales begin (to support the scholarship fund; items are donated by vendors and local artists)
  Bazaar opens (until 9 pm) - come shop our wonderful vendors
  Red Tent Room opens (until 10 pm)
4:00 - 5:30 pm Tour of the Capitol. Limited to first 24 people to sign up when registering. Meet in the hotel Lobby.
5:30 - 7:30 pm Welcome Happy Hour; wine, beer and soft drinks complimentary to Hotel guests
  Conference attendees not staying at the hotel may purchase drinks from the hotel bar.
7:00 - 8:15 pm Opening Ceremony - come Be the Spark!
After the Maidens "meet and greet"
ceremony... Gather with friends for dinner on your own in the hotel or at one of the area's many restaurants
  Shop at the Bazaar until 9 pm
  Gather in the Red Tent Room until 10 pm (a comfortable place to relax and connect with others)

Check out time is noon so pack-up before you come down to say good bye. The hotel will hold your bags until you are ready to leave.
